Dear Life...

You sang your swan song to the dogs
'Cause they made mincemeat of the dreams you hung your hopes on
So you cut it out, well your sins cost
While money talks to your conscience, looking like a fool for love

Dear life, I'm holding on
Dear life, I'm holding on
How long must I wait
Before the thrill is gone
Salvador Dali, "The Three Sphinxes of Bikini" (1947)

___________ CODA ___________

There’s little in taking or giving,
There’s little in water or wine;
This living, this living, this living
Was never a project of mine.

Oh, hard is the struggle, and sparse is
The gain of the one at the top,
For art is a form of catharsis,
And love is a permanent flop,

And work is the province of cattle,
And rest’s for a clam in a shell,
So I’m thinking of throwing the battle —
Would you kindly direct me to hell?

~ Dorothy Parker (1893-1967)

That is the most disquieting Dali I've everseen, but I could not tell you why?

Most his stuff is merely fascinating, but this Sphinxes thing is downright EERIE.

I suppose in '47, the idea of nuclear war was all a bit too new.

I remember 1947 very well. We were still in a state of euphoria over our decisive victory over the Axis Powers, and because we were still the only natiin to have the Atom Bomb, as it was then called, we believed ourselves invincible.

It was lovely time, but all too brief, of course.

If it hadn't been for those FUCKIN' Rosenbergs, –– and Truman's FOOLISH decision NOT to follow MacArthur's oh-so-sage advice –– we might have held on to our glorious ascendancy fmuch longer, BUT as the adage says, "NOTHING cn STOP an IDEA whose TIME has COME."

Good and Evil have nothing to do with it. Sadly the majority seem to have a penchant for the atter. (SIGH!)
